Running MapEdit

I see you are new to "the stuff"? Don't worry, here I will explain everything that you need to make
your first, working level for Wolfenstein 3D, or Spear of Destiny. If you have any problems encountered during editing, or just want to ask me something, then feel free to e-mail me.

So, before the editing, let's be sure you have the things needed to edit Wolfenstein. You need:

- MapEdit 8.4
- TPPatch
- Wolfenstein 3D / Spear of Destiny FULL versions
- Object / Map data

For MapEdit, visit the Utilities page. Objdata and MapData are two files needed to run the MapEdit, and they are included in the package with MapEdit 8.4... TPPatch is a program that fixes the old programs and makes them run with newer systems (divide by 0 error).

Just unpack your MapEdit files into the directory with Wolfenstein 3D / Spear. Then, unpack the OBJDATA / MAPDATA files to the same directory (there are few versions of the data files, depending on what game would you like to edit - we will work on Wolf). After that copy the TPPatch to the MapEdit directory and run it in DOS mode like this:

tppatch mapedit.exe

Now MapEdit should work OK. Let's change it to our needs - run the SETUP.EXE that comes with MapEdit and change some things, if you want. MapEdit probably comes with the best option choosing, so it's possible that you don't need to run anything... but sometimes there isn't the CFG file so you need to run it. So, after finishing the Setup we are ready to run the mapedit. Remember that it needs to be in the same directory that Wolfenstein 3D is, and remember that the extension of the game files must be named WL6! That means you have the full version of the game...

mapedit.exe

And we are here! Hop to Objects & Walls!
