MAY/JUN 2007 Latest News News Archive

30th June 2007: IRONY Update

Lakota Bucksnort tells me that her upcoming addon called 'IRONY' is to be released soon. It will be a 10 level Spear Of Destiny set with some original graphics and some from Paderborn. There will also be some code and music changes. The levels will be quite extensive and challenging to play. There's just a little more level editing to do and it's expected to be released in about two weeks.

26th June 2007: Valts SOD Project Demo Released

Valts has released a demo from his upcoming 'Valts SOD Project'. Only the maps have been changed thus far and there are 5 new levels. Although some are not that large, they are all designed well and nicely decorated. Available here. Needs the full version of Spear Of Destiny to play.

24th June 2007: Dome Award - June 2007

This month's Dome award goes to Andy Nonymous for 'Mac-enstein Second Encounter'. It is a good 'all round' set and will especially suit those who haven't yet played the mac version of Wolf3D. For more info on this set - please see Add-ons - Awarded.

24th June 2007: WolfMenu And DOSMenu

Here are two DOS programs from Andy Nonymous that some wolfers with large collections might find useful: WolfMenu and DOSMenu. Fully configurable by the user, they have a search feature, and each supports up to 600 entries. Both programs come with several practical examples and plenty of documentation. Available here. Wolfmenu 3.2 replaces the old version 1.2 posted on "Mr. Lowe's" under Extras/Cheats.

23rd June 2007: Star Wars 3-D Released

Here's a very old shareware set that I've not seen before. It's called 'Star Wars 3-D'. The graphics changes are pretty cool though the sounds haven't been changed and the maps have been altered only to show off some walls. Available here. Thanks to Andy Nonymous who found this set at the Da Warren Memorial File Area #13.

13th June 2007: Wolfenstein RPG Demo Released

Joshua Waight has released a 2 level demo of his upcoming project 'Wolfenstein RPG'. As the title suggests, this is not a FPS but a RPG. It looks quite professionally done, and though it's a different type of game, the Wolf3D atmosphere is still there. Please note though, the download is more than 5Mb. Available here.

11th June 2007: Medal Of Honor Airborne Screenshots

Here's another set of screenshots from 'Medal Of Honor Airborne'. They were sent in by Wolfenstein3D Fan.

11th June 2007: Mac Wolfenstein Midi Files

Andy Nonymous has sent in a zip containing the 4 remaining Mac Wolfenstein midis. They are Doom, Rocked, Grunge and Original. Available here.

The first three midis were in the Phroggy's collection, released May 13, 2006, and it's still available here.

6th June 2007: Multiplayer Engine HUGE Update

Here's an email I received from JJ Erickson, concerning the Wolf3D Multiplayer Engine: Ok it's another awesome update from Carnevil and I - the new Multiplayer Engine - almost a year in the making will be available for a closed beta testing.

There are 5 deathmatch arenas, 2 co-operative levels and 1 capture the life orb level. This is a huge event for the classic Wolfer community and I'd like to thank Carnevil for some of the skulltag source. Carnevil says "there are also 3 new bosses for single player in addition to 3 new weapons, a flamethrower, a grenade and a landmine".

A new script master to the group coded the game types. His name is Joseph van Hoche - he is a complete master to the multiplayer engine code. Also, I re-did some of the graphics in the game to suit this new engine:
-added deathorb (kills player on sight).
-added advanced teleporter (has animated warp sprite just like Doom).
-added new menu items (unlockables, cheats, online play, join game, scroll bar, adv. controls).
-it's in its own client! - thanks to Joseph.
Message to all: if you've got time, head on over to my IRC chat server:irc.Caelestia.net (or org).

5th June 2007: Der Angriff (The Attack) Released

Raphael (also known as maximator) has released 'Der Angriff (The Attack)'. There are 60 new levels that are large and very well decorated. The graphics are a mix of new and original graphics and there are real German sounds and new music. The code changes include textured walls and ceilings, 200 max ammo and there is both German and English helpart. The menu and status bar is in German. It all blends well together and keeps the original Wolf3D feel intact, though the game has a feel of it's own too. Available here.

4th June 2007: Tricob's 64x64 Images Released

Here's an email received from Tricob: "My TC's plans have officially changed - I'm moving from the original SOD palette and 64x64 images to 128x128 images with a different palette, so all the 64x64 images I've already made for my mod aren't going to be used. I'm therefore releasing the 64x64 version of the walls and sprites to the general public for use in their own TCs. There's two new enemies, six new treasure items, several new wall images (Sorry about the gaudy mansion wall; the palette worked against me), and a few other new sprites." Available here.

3rd June 2007: Mac-enstein Second Encounter Released

Andy Nonymous has released 'Mac-enstein Second Encounter'. There are 30 well designed and well decorated levels. The graphics, sounds and music fit together well, and give a good emulation of the mac version. This is quite a good set from Andy and will especially suit those who haven't played the mac version before. Text file included. Available here.

2nd June 2007: Wolfenstein3D Dreamcast Port

A port of Wolfenstein3D based on Steven Fuller's Linux port and partly based on the GP32 port by flavor, hooka and djwillis was released a few days ago for the Sega Dreamcast. There's more info at Storm-Studios.net.

There's also a support forum at DCEmulation.

30th May 2007: Operation Wintersturm Updated

WLHack has released an updated version of 'Operation Wintersturm'. There is an updated exe which fixes some bugs in the earlier version released May 16. Saved games from the earlier version may not work in this one. It's available here. The original zip has also been updated.

30th May 2007: New Medal Of Honor - Wolf3D Forum

As the title suggests, this is a forum to discuss the Wolf3D mods being made in the 'Medal Of Honor' series.

It's hosted by Wolfenstein3D Fan, and is at Medal Of Honor - Wolf 3D Forum.

21st May 2007: Airslide's SoD Mod Released

Here's the first mod released by Airslide. It's called 'Airslide's SoD Mod'. There are 6 levels, some large and some small but they are nicely designed and the decoration is about right. There's a mix of new and original graphics and sounds (most of the sprites are new), and they fit well with the new music. The Spear feel is retained quite well. Available here. Needs the full version of Spear Of Destiny to play.

21st May 2007: New Wolf3D Site

Michael Collin has a new Wolf3D site called 'Wolf3D Castle'. Features include 'mod of the month', favourite mods, ratings and links. It's put together quite well.

It's at Wolf3D Castle.

20th May 2007: Dome Awards - April/May 2007

Firstly, my apologies for not posting the April award earlier. This goes to Michael Collin for 'Hitler's Ark'. The May Dome awards go to Mario Maniac for 'Operation Weltmeisterung' and WLHack for 'Operation Wintersturm'. All three mods are very good examples of well designed levels combined with good graphics/sounds and many advanced coding changes. For more info on these sets - please see Add-ons - Awarded. Some other addons from this month will be considered later as I need to play more of them.

19th May 2007: The Trilogy Revisited Released

Serpens has released a 30 level mapset called 'The Trilogy Revisited'. The maps are well designed and nicely decorated. They are similar in style to those from the original Wolf3D game and will suit those who appreciate good level design. Text file included. Available here. Needs the full version of Wolf3D to play.

18th May 2007: The Lost World Part 6 - Kate's Mission Released

Richter Belmont and Mac Mendoza have released 'The Lost World Part 6 - Kate's Mission'. There are 30 mostly extensive levels that are well designed though some I have seen before. Most graphics and sounds have been changed and blend well together. Code changes include textured floors/ceilings, parallax skies, reloading weapons, doors opening from the middle and strife keys and many more. Overall, quite a good set. Available here.

18th May 2007: Men In Black Full Version Released

Dr. Von Loon has released 'Men In Black Full Version'. The 60 levels used are from Wolfen60. Some of the graphics are from Astrostein, some from elsewhere, and along with the new sounds, they fit well together to create a good sci-fi type scenario. Available here. Needs the full Wolf3D game to play. The supplied vga files work only with the Apogee version.

17th May 2007: Drawn And Quartered Review

Bob Larkin tells me that Dr. Von Loon has reviewed the 'Drawn And Quartered' mod made by Ringman.

There are several screenshots featured and it's at Drawn And Quartered Review.

17th May 2007: Machine Gun Graphics

Airslide made this gun a while ago and except for the hand and muzzleflash it is completely original. It's free for anyone to use as long as they give credit. Designed to replace the original machine gun. Available here.

16th May 2007: Operation Wintersturm Released

Here's the first game from the 'Mod In A Week Part 2' contest. It's by WLHack and is called 'Operation Wintersturm'. The 3 levels are extensive and made to a high standard. Virtually all graphics and sounds have been changed and fit well with the new music. The outdoor areas are especially atmospheric. Code changes include destructable objects, backpack, gun bobbing, helpart and textured floors/ceilings. Available here.

16th May 2007: A Doll's House Released

Paal Olstad has released 'A Doll's House'. However, getting the game involves completing a quiz and I haven't been able to complete it yet.

More info on this game and how to get it is available here.

16th May 2007: Operation Weltmeisterung Released

Mario Maniac has released 'Operation Weltmeisterung'. There are 22 seamless levels that are well designed and well decorated. The changed graphics and sounds blend in well and the Wolf3D feel is retained. Code changes include teleports, textured ceilings and floors, helpart, breakable pillars and a timer display. Available here.

13th May 2007: Wolfenstein3D Fan - New Downloads Page

Wolfenstein3D Fan has made a new downloads page with links to his addons.

It's at Wolfenstein3D Fan Downloads Page.

5th May 2007: Nursestein3D Demo Released

Koen has released a demo 10 level shareware project called 'Nursestein3D'. Although unfinished, there are 10 extensive levels and changed characters, sounds and sprites. The project is partly based on the addon 'Romanstein'. Configured to run in NewWolf, the mod will also run with the normal Wolf3D exe. Koen isn't able to continue with this project, and he hopes that somebody will be able to finish it. A text file with a lot of info is included. Available here.
