Tristan isn't interested in continuing this Wolfenstein 3D in Doom 2 page, but Matt Stath is continuing his own list on Wolfensteingoodies.com. If you find a Wolfenstein 3D in Doom 2 mod or update not listed on Matt's page, then contact him at stathmk(at)yahoo(dot)com.

Getting Started:

Install Doom 2 in directory named doom2. Then change that directory name to doom2backup. That's because if you have a lot of .wad files, the second folder could get messed up. Install Doom 2 again. Change this second directory's name to doom2wads.

Download ZDoom For Windows. Available here. Install ZDoom to the doom2wads folder.

Download the desired DOOM2 conversion. Install files to the doom2wads folder.

Open the doom2wads folder. Drag the DOOM2 conversion .wad file (e.g. wolf2.wad) onto the ZDoom exe icon. If there is a .deh file included then highlight both the .deh and .wad files together (use CTRL key) and then drag the .wad file on to the ZDoom.exe icon.

Note: It is recommended that mods that come with a .deh file included (e.g. halten.deh) should have the .deh file loaded too. In some mods (e.g. Halten Sie) it is essential. Examples of problems that can occur otherwise are dogs being too difficult to beat, and being unable to pass through some objects that are supposed to be passable.

Instead of dragging the files onto ZDoom.exe, you can use a batch file instead. A typical example of a batch file would be zdoom.exe -deh halten.deh -file halten.wad.

The Twilight Zone is a 32 level megawad for Doom2. The original version was completed in 1997. Most levels to todays standards have an old school feel. There have been many changes to the level design in all maps to improve the feel. A few of the earlier maps still have wolfenstein textures in them.

These levels are very good. It's mostly a Doom theme but parts of some of the secret levels (5 secret levels total, Map31-35, if you use ZDoom) are Wolfenstein-based, and Map32 in particular is a very large Wolfenstein secret level.

While the layout of the map has remained basically unchanged, creatures from doom2, as well as varied heights in levels, stairs, lighting and textures have been added to give it the look of an updated Wolf3d level. All the secrets have been kept, as well as adding new ones (can you find the plasma rifle?)
